Foody Weekends and Life Updates

One of my favorite things to do is is have dinner parties… and that is no exception when it comes to my weekend free time. This past Easter weekend was hard for me as it was the first time I spent it without my mother. She had to work and couldn’t join me in our normal Easter festivities. But the weekend was full of other wonderful things including an exceptional dinner party with one of my amazing friends and a delicious brunch with my mom on Saturday.

My friend Victoria is one of those people you want to emulate in a lot of ways. Not afraid to be herself, a master interior decorator, and a knack for being a food wiz in the kitchen, she always lends some inspiration. I want some of her pretty; everything in her house just looks so well put together. She had table settings I envied and always notices the little details.

The night’s menu included all sorts of guilty treats.
1 )Mini Cherry Chocolate and Fig Marmalade Pies
2) Citrus Ginger Spiked Tea
3) Martha Stewart’s Macaroni and Cheese

Can you say yum??

My little dog Brody got quite a playdate with Vic’s 3 pups that night. Its great to be able to take my furry friend with me when I go places. The next morning my mom and I went to brunch at a place on Melrose called Blu Jam that was exceptional. There one menu item I would tell anyone to go and get would be their Crunchy French Toast. No ordinary French Toast, this one was coated in crunchy corn flakes before it was pan fried and served with a vanilla cream. I died and went to heaven.

All in all, the Easter weekend was so lovely. I hope all of you also had a great time with your families. Here are so more photos of the food we made and the treats I got to eat.

Clippers vs Kings Game with LT22

Saturday embarked one of many excursions the class of LT22 will take together. Thanks to the lovely Todd, who acquired Clippers tickets for our class, 18 of us went to the Clippers vs Kings game. The Clippers won and all of us got to get to know each other a little bit better.

Before the game, most of us met up at Yardhouse to enjoy some delicious food and beer. Always a hot spot in Los Angeles, LA Live was teeming with Clippers fans that day. Unfortunately for the rest of my classmates, Andrew and I had a different agenda…

Although we are all for team spirit, Andrew and I had to band together and root for our Bruin boy on the Kings. Little did we know, he would hear our cheering from the top row and play the last few minutes of the game. Go Tyler!! #freetyler

The night ended with an adventure to Lucky Strike for a little bit of dancing and banding together. Mark busted out his world famous dance moves as everyone watching in pure elation. If any of you haven’t seen this man shake his groove thing yet, it is a must!

Hopefully, this is just the start to some fabulous times with each other. Go Beach!

Ginger Citrus Tea

Summer is coming, and one of my favorite things to make are various teas. I had a dinner party with a friend last Friday and wanted to bring something spicy and refreshing to her house.

2 Oranges
2 Myer Lemons
1 Lemon
2 Bags Ginger Tea
2 Tsp Ginger Root
1 Can Peaches
5 Cups Boiling Water
2tbs Agave Syrup

You may notice one of my Myer lemons is zested. I used the zest in my delicious recipe for Mini Pies. Check it out!

Place the teabags and ginger root in a pitcher or container in which you want to make the tea. Pour the hot water in the container and let steep for 10 minutes.

Mini Portable Pies

I love Pinterest and have had an account for almost a year now. If you want, you can follow me here. I have made only a few recipes from the site, but one of the things I have been dying to try are those posts for mini pies. Well, last night I had a girl’s night with one of my favorite ladies, Victoria, and we decided to delve our way into the world of mini pies!!

The recipe we used is a variation of this one. I followed the directions for the crust, but we decided to do something different for the filling. My blog post includes a variety of pies; fig, apple, cherry, blackberry, and orange.

2 1/2 c. unbleached all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp sugar1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp lemon zest
2 sticks (1 c.) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/4 in pieces
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
6-8 Tbsp cold buttermilk (I have dried buttermilk, which is actually handy to have around. This is fine too)
powdered sugar for dusting
Cookie Cutter, circle

For the filling, we did something simple using jams and just sprucing them up.
FIG and ORANGE: A mixture of dried figs,  fig jam, and Orange marmalade
CHERRY and CHOCOLATE: Cherry preserves and chocolate almond spread

The first step is to make the dough and set it aside to chill before rolling it out. Start by combining the vanilla and the buttermilk for the wet ingredients.

Next, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and lemon zest in a large bowl. Make sure all the ingredients are incorporated well.

Becca Lynn’s Bridal Shower

Doesn’t Becca make the prettiest bride?

This Saturday was an exciting day for me; I had my final presentation in class, you know that arcade game I was building that I talked about, and one of the most special people in my life had her Bridal shower. Rebecca Lynn Austin, soon to be part of the Stumpf clan when she marries my dear besties brother, Matthew.

I have only been to one bridal shower before, and it was of someone I didn’t really know. The shower was beautiful, but for me, wasn’t the same as I wasn’t as close to the bride. Rebecca though, has become part of my LA family and I love her dearly. I have talked about my Stumpf Sundays, where I essentially blend myself into their family activities, partly leading to my jam/jelly and True Blood addiction. Well, Becca lives with the Stumpfs until her and Matthew buy a house, so I get to spend every Saturday with her as well : )

Katie, my lovely friend, put on the most amazing bridal shower. Everything was beautiful; from the food presentation, to the tables, to the accents all over the house, she really outdid herself. And the event was perfectly organized, with these super fun games, and delicious food. PLUS… the gift for coming was homemade strawberry and jalapeno jam that Katie’s aunt made. She dubbed it “Hot-Lanta”; Becca is from Atlanta, GA and her and Matt’s favorite flavors are strawberry and jalapeno. It was such a thoughtful cute idea, and it tasted delicious! I plan on serving my jam at my birthday party event coming up on April 28th.

The color scheme was Tiffany blue, white and coral. I have to be honest; upon thinking of this color combo I was unsure of how it would turn out. But upon seeing everything put together, beautiful. The colors in the room were just so nice.

Kudos to Katie and Congratulations to Becca Lynn. I had such a wonderful time and I can’t wait for the wedding.

Simple Sugar Cookies with Glaze

Bear with me as I make my first WordPress Blog Post attempt by officially typing it into a WordPress Blog Template!!! Crazyness may ensue : )

I had my final class project due this past Saturday. It was ridiculous; we had to build a machine, make up a company, and sell the product to our class. Ours was an arcade game called Free Kick Fever which we had “partnered” with the LA Galaxy. I was in charge of Marketing, and decided to make LA Galaxy themed cookies to bring to my class as part of my marketing scheme.

3/4 cup butter plus 2 tbs Unsalted Butter
1 1/8 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

To start, add the butter to a mixing bowl and get it creamy. Once the butter has creamed a bit, add the sugar.
