Marcus Kowal and Krav Maga

A lot of people ask me what I do to work out since its obvious I am eating constantly. I do the normal stuff; run, hike, weights… but one thing a lot of people don’t know about me is I fight. Not hard core, not against people, but I do Krav Maga. For those of you that don’t know, Krav Maga is a noncompetitive martial art and eclectic self-defense system developed in Israel that involves striking techniques, wrestling and grappling. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and extremely efficient, brutal counter-attacks. Basically, don’t mess.

In all seriousness, I am only level one. But I feel a lot safer about living on my own and being able to defend myself. Plus, I have dropped 2 pants sizes, faster than any other exercise or diet I ever tried to do. See, I run now and Ive been running for years. But I have never done anything with such high intensity after I quit soccer as this. Krav Maga coupled with MIT Fitness USA has really kicked my butt into gear.

The man who has taught me to fight is none other than Marcus Kowal. The guy is an amazing fighter and a great teacher. I take classes with him at Krav Maga Worldwide in Sherman Oaks, but there are other locations in the Los Angeles area.

This Friday night come see him fight the co-main event at Samurai Pro at the City of Culver City Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium.  I will be there watching him kick some a$$ with some friends and supporting a sport I love dearly. Tickets can be purchased at Krav Maga Worldwide Training Centers or online at http://samuraimmapro.com/Eng/
